Kodama, its mean the spirits of tree.
"Kodama" translate into English, its "echo". echo is a sound that hits the mountain and returns.
it had been thought that the spirits of the forest returned it, in old times.
and now, not only the spirits but the sound is called Kodama.
Kodama written in Kanji "木霊" or "木魂".
especially, to express the sound, it is written in "谺".

thank u both for explaining me the name of this little spirits of the forest. I like that the people in old times thought that it was spirits and other creatures who made the natur alive. I think that is a part of the religon
shinto, isn't it.

nanashi, I love your Japanese translations and explanations. They are awesome.
I wish I could find some Japanese software for my keyboard so I could do the same (- but then again, I'm starting to forget my kanji. )

They don't just live in the trees, according to Japanese legend, they live in all aspects of nature.

All names mean something--not only Japanese names. Miyazaki is a family name. It consists of two characters, one (miya) meaning shrine and the other (saki) meaning cape (as in Cape Cod). It's a fairly common name.
The interesting part is his given name, Hayao. I had to look up the meaning in my dictionary. It means fast as it applies to horses. As that happens to be one of the reasons you might want a horse, it imparts a sense of skill in the connotation. He obviously took his name to heart.
