Seems like about time to get talking about the next Ghibli Cup!!

I got a suggestion from belborges a while ago about doing a "Ghibli Awards" type thing where we vote for films by category (things like soundtrack, art direction, etc) and I liked that idea a lot, but unfortunately I never got around to setting it up. I still want to do the annual Ghibli Cup the usual way, but if people are into the Ghibli Awards concept, I'd be happy to try and arrange it in the summer or something like that.

With that out of the way, the Ghibli Cup format will be just the same as ever, with a qualifying round in December and then the main event in January-February. With 2025 being the 40th anniversary of Studio Ghibli, I have an idea of what would work as the "host" film, but maybe we should do a quick poll of a couple of options like we normally do.

Questions and comments are always welcome!

I've just started the first of the three qualifying groups on Discord! It works the same way as Discord voting in previous years, so please head over there between now and Thursday to place your votes.

That's the first group over now! The qualifying films are Kiki, Nausicaa and Ponyo.

Group B is now open for voting, and again you can do that on Discord. You have until Monday!

Group B is now finished, with Marnie, Poppy Hill and The Wind Rises all qualifying.

The final qualifying group is now open for voting on Discord, so please take a look between now and Friday!

And that's qualifying all done now! The final three to join the list of qualified films are Princess Mononoke, Porco Rosso and Howl's Moving Castle.

I'll unveil the groups for the main tournament on Sunday!
