We're a bit further forward with the plans for Ghibli Cup 2023 now! We have the host decided and I've made the logo:
And the information thread with all the important details is up now too:

I also want to point out that part of the qualifying stage is planned to take place on Twitter this year. In the time since I worked out the structure, Twitter has come under the new ownership of someone quickly earning a reputation for reckless management, so there is some chance that it'll rapidly fall apart. In that case I might have to rework the qualifying stage, but if there are any changes, I'll make sure to post here and let you know what's going on.

That's quite understandable! I realise that not all of the platforms suit everyone, but I at least like to think it's doing something for encouraging people to come and check out the forum.
By the way, after the site came back from being down last week, I found that some of the posts in the information thread (and in the one from last year) had been wiped. Luckily I still had the post contents saved on my computer so I fixed it, but things like that do have me a little bit worried that there could be further issues between now and when we have the voting... With that in mind I'll try to think up some kind of Plan B.

The qualifying stage is over now! The films that qualified are:
Laputa: Castle in the Sky
Only Yesterday
Porco Rosso
From Up on Poppy Hill
Ponyo
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Ocean Waves
I'll work out the groups for the main event on Sunday, and then the next major thing happening will be the tournament itself in mid-January!

There's something I want to mention before the quarter finals start tomorrow! Previously, all quarter finalists have qualified automatically for the next year's tournament, but I think that next time, How Do You Live? will probably be included too. I came up with a solution for the number of films once a new one is added, and this will mean not all the quarter finalists can be guaranteed qualification for next time. The automatic places in this case would go to this year's semi finalists, plus the one or two losing quarter finalists to miss out by the smallest votes margin.
Just wanted to bring this up now rather than suddenly reveal it later! I hope all of this made sense.
