Hey Everyone I've not really been active for a while had so much going on, was made redundant as my last place closed but just recently started a new job, I have a Girlfriend and I have booked a month's trip of Japan.
I start in Osaka, then to Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Kyoto, Kanazawa, Takayama, Hakone then finish in Tokyo. I am out there for a whole month and I can't wait, I am also visiting the Ghibli Museum among other places !!!
I will be sure to take many pics and will vlog as much of it as I can.

Be ready for hot weather! September isn't nearly as bad as August but it still feels like summer.

Wow Husky you must have some interesting stories from that time! Would love to hear about it.
Koda, that sounds great, how was the trip? Do you have any recommendations for someone that has less than a month to spare? I want to plan a trip within the next two years and I think I could probably take three weeks.

I just realised, Koda, we were in Japan at the same time, haha! I flew out in late August 2016 to begin my year abroad. How was the 2019 trip? Where did you go?
I'm cautiously optimistic about finally getting back to Japan this spring. I was meant to go in April 2020, then the borders closed. Thankfully, the company I applied to are still waiting for me.

I think a few of us could give you some tips for travelling in Japan Is there anywhere you particularly want to go?

That's cool that many of you have been to Japan. I obviously would love to go to the Ghibli Museum. I heard back in the day you could actually go up into the studio and watch Miyazaki-San work. It's a life goal to shake his hand and maybe get a photo. Not sure If I'll get the chance but I would love that.
Apart from that; I'd like to spend some time in Tokyo, then travel from North to South seeing a lot of Nature along the way, and end up in Okinawa for a few days.
Ambitious trip I know, but I've had a lifetime of dreaming about it haha

Going from the top to the bottom sounds nice! Doing all of that in one trip seems a bit exhausting to me, but I do understand. I was actually living there, so I was in more of a position to take focused trips to particular areas, but even then I usually did quite a lot of stuff in each place.
If you're going to Okinawa, I would definitely recommend the southern islands (Ishigaki, Iriomote, etc). The heat probably gets to be a bit too much in the summer though!

Wow, that's very cool. How long did you live there for?
You're probably right about the trip being too long for one visit.
If you had to recommend perhaps a top 3-5 for one three week visit, what would it be?

For nature, Yakushima might be a good shout. That's supposed to the place that inspired Princess Mononoke.

I think going to maybe two different areas per week wouldn't be too much of a stretch, though I suppose you might want to spend longer in parts that interest you a lot.
Coming up with top recommendations is a bit hard... I have some favouritism for the Kansai area (Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Nara) because that's where I lived, and I actually write some tourism stuff about Osaka now. Kyoto is obviously a really popular destination, and for good reason.
I'd also recommend Kyushu. I went to Nagasaki, Kumamoto and Fukuoka, and they are a bit spread out so you'd probably want to arrange it differently or spend a bit more time there. If you go to Kagoshima in souther Kyushu, that lets you get to Yakushima, which Kaz mentioned.
And apart from those, there are plenty of places that aren't as popular with foreign tourists. I had nice trips to Shimane and Gifu, but there are other rural areas that you could look into too. Nagoya will probably start being popular once the Ghibli Park opens, and that's not quite so out-of-the-way.
How much have you investigated so far yourself?
