  spooky

This is seriously spooky as I predicted this about 4 days ago, only to read it here! Even the release date is right. I've read the Earthsea books about 8 times in 15 years, and they are perfect. Dragons, wide ocean vistas, heroic characters, magic. I was ecstatic when I found out that Howl would be done by Miyazaki, and now I'm dancing around the room.

Hiya Arwen, welcome!

You surely have some talents in premonition during dreaming!

It is great that you are very familiar with the story. I haven't read it yet and am planning to get the books. How do you think of the story? Do you think the materials in book 3 &4 can be smoothly converted into a two-hour feature movie?

To be honest the first two books are my favourites... however I think that 3 & 4 will fit with Ghibli themes better. It is unusual to pair them together. Originally Earthsea was a trilogy and the fourth and fifth book were published later (there is also a book of short stories set in the earthsea realm). So in my mind there is a chronological gap, particularly as Book 3 (the farthest shore) is quite climactic. I would imagine that there will be some 'juggling' with the story to make it smooth.
The great thing about these two books is that a) there will be plenty of gorgeous ghibli seascapes and b) the fourth book, Tehanu, has a young heroine, and ghibli does young heroines so well.
What I'm most curious about is that it will be Miyazaki's son. How different will it be?

Hi Jiji, great! I also received this news from Japan this morning and also posted it on my website. I've got one extra picture of Gedo Senki next to the one you posted, you can find it of course over here:

More Gedo Senki news! Yesterday of course Studio Ghibli announced the voice cast “Gedo Senki”, today there’s more news! Last December Yomiuri Online had an interview with producer Toshio Suzuki about Gedo Senki. However, this interview didn’t contain everything being said; the entire interview (unedited by Yomiuri Online!) is now published online by Studio Ghibli! I posted an item about it with a translation of new parts here: http://www.ghibliworld.com/news.html

Loved the translated bits of the interview you have posted so far, hopefully you'll have the time to translate it all.

The relationship between Goro Miyazaki and his father is so interesting.

I just got back from work and hasted myself to finish my own item about Gedo Senki with a lot of more info and footage. Check it out over here: http://www.ghibliworld.com/news.html

It has the complete program with more footage and the trailer as well in high resolution. Also more info about the voice cast, father-son problems between Hayao and Goro, et cetera.

Hope you like it!

Song of Teruh
Lyric : Miyazaki Goro, Music : Taniyama Hiroko, Arrange : Terashima Tamiya
Song : Teshima Aoi

--------------------------------------------------
yuuyami semaru kumo no ue / 夕闇迫る 雲の上

oto mo todaeta kaze no naka / 音も途絶えた 風の中

hitokage taeta no no michiwo / 人影絶えた 野の道を

--------------------------------------------------
over the cloud in the dusk
the hawk is flying always alone
he might surely be sorrowful

any sound was ceased in the wind
his wings takes the air
he can't rest his wings

how I express my mind
my mind like hawk
how I express my mind
my sadness like flying in the sky

the path in a field, nobody has passed
walking on there with me
you are surely lonely

on a grassy plain that insects has been chirping
we are making journey together
but we haven't been talking

how I express my mind
my mind that goes alone
how I express my mind
my loneliness that are alone
--------------------------------------------------

Great, thanks for the translation! Goro Miyazaki really made some nice lyrics.
Nausicaa.net also posted a translation of the trailer in their news section.

I'm curious if it'll be a good movie, but it looks promising. I haven't read the earthsea books, but as they're pretty famous I take it that at least the story is good. Even though I think Goro's part as a director is less big than it seems to be, let's hope he will make a good movie of it. Luckily, he'll have the rest of the Ghibli staff behind him.

thanks.

please point it out with a better translation sentence. >all
if you have a more appropriate word, an expression suitable for the melody.

lets make a beautiful English lyrics. >all

Posted by wushu-4-ever on 02.27.2006, 10:35 AM:

This is what I would make of it:

In the dusk behind the clouds
A hawk is flying always alone
He will surely be sad…

In the wind where is no sound
His wings take the air
Not able to rest…

How do I express
this mind like a hawk?
How do I express
my sadness that whirls the sky?

Somebody crossing a field, nobody has passed
Walking that path together with me
You will surely be lonely…

On a grassy plain where insects are chirping
We are making a journey together
without saying anything…

How do I express
my mind that goes alone?
How do I express
my loneliness that is alone?

It still needs to be adjusted to the melody of the song though. Please let me know what you think of it.

My friend Takahiro has also let me know what’s so wonderful about the lyrics > The Japanese lyrics are composed of 7 and 5 Hiragana.

yuuyami semaru kumo no ue / $BM<0GGw$k!!1@$N>e (B
yu u ya mi se ma ru / ku mo no u e
7 5

itsumo ichiwa de tondeiru / $B$$$D$b0l1)$G!!Ht$s$G$$$k (B
i tsu mo i shi wa de / to n de i ru
7 5

This song repeats constant rhythm 7,5,7,5,7....
Therefore, it sounds comfortably.

yes!! thats right!

this is my opinions, how do you think?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yuuyami semaru kumo no ue / 夕闇迫る 雲の上
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In the dusk behind the clouds
----------------------------------------------------------------------
a hawk flies higher than the cloud,
but a hawk doesn't go behind a cloud,
and a hawk is seen from the person on the ground.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------
How do I express
this mind like a hawk?
How do I express
my sadness that whirls the sky?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
"this mind like a hawk?"
i think that "my mind like a hawk?" is better than "this mind like a hawk?"
"kono kokoro" means my mind, in this case.
and next sentence has "my sadness",
therefore, this sentence will start by "my mind".

"my mind like a hawk?"
"my sadness that whirls the sky?"
1st sentence uses "like",
therefore, i want to use "like" for the 2nd sentence.

"sora wo mauyouna"
"whirl" ummm...
i think ""sora wo mauyouna" have feeling that slow or leisurely,
like the 1st cut of the trailer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
hitokage taeta no no michiwo / 人影絶えた 野の道を

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Somebody crossing a field, nobody has passed
Walking that path together with me

----------------------------------------------------------------------
i think its "You" that walking with "me".
"I" and "You" walking together on the path in the fields.
nobody has passed on the path except "You" and "I".

Please write your idea, Everyone.

[QUOTE
Please write your idea, Everyone.
[/QUOTE]

Ok, here is a quick message with my ideas. I have just added some details to the other translations above.

In the dusk over the clouds,
always alone a hawk is flying.(1)
He will probably be sad...

any sound has ceased in the wind,
his wings take the air, (2)
he can't rest his wings

How can I express my mind (3)
my mind like a hawk?
how can I express my mind,
my sadness like flying in the sky

the path in a field, nobody has passed (2)
walking on there with me
you are gonna be surely alone

On a grassy plain where insects are chirping
We are making a journey together
but were are not saying any word…

how can I express my mind
my mind that goes alone,
how can I express my mind,
how can I express my lonely loneliness? (4)

----------------
(1) I think this order of words is much more poetic

(2) I think it is important not to add continuity between sentences. Each one is like a paintbrush in a painting, like showing one detail and other in an still image

(3) "Can": important to mean his effort to be able to express his feeling, and his dilema of not finding the words

(4) "Lonely loneliness": much more poetic than "my loneliness that is alone", it express very well that his loneliness is very deep.
