It's not unheard just because nobody replies directly. They just might not know what to say.
I'm a big supporter of home education, mainly because it lets you go at your own pace through what you want to learn, rather than getting tied to a rigid curriculum. I even homeschooled for a couple of years. I do think social interaction is important though, although that might be hypocritical of me, since I get so little of it. Bullying is the worst, but there are usually other ways to resolve it without leaving school. If they don't work though, I wouldn't hesitate to pull myself or my future kids out of an environment with bullies and just teach them at home...
I'm continuing school because I know that even though it's crazy painful, I really do like what I'm learning, and I badly need to learn more. It's a bit like level grinding in an RPG, when you just plough through tough bad guys until you get all the skills you need to move on to the tougher levels. That's how I look at what I'm doing. I feel like I need more skills... because I know I'll use them. So I can't quit now!
(But I will take breaks). Yay, time to relax and read manga!

Sometimes I think we're the same person. I thought I was the only one who makes bruschetta with my friends!  (Though I haven't done that since last August. Wow, time flies!). And that's my thoughts on nightclubs almost exactly - you just left out the music being loud enough to make my brain dissolve. Ugh. Ghibli and video games, any time!

As for me there are two main reasons;
1. Because, after 5 years of different schools which I didn't really liked, I could finally make it to the school I've always wanted to go to. I want to write and publish articles, short stories, interviews, documentaries etc.
Now I am doing this I find myself finally in the right place. I enjoy my school, also because of the few lessons I have in a week, since I appreciate much spare time as well.  But also because the lessons are interesting me and I want to learn, especially about creative writing.
2.Because you can work your whole life later on, and work isn't that nice I think. Sure, if it's your passion/hobby it is fun to do, but still..all the spare time you normally spend with friends and at home, you have to leave behind. I hate that, so it's also because I am lazy  That's said xD

I've always wondered; is going to university and learning that painful to do? D: Because it's never sounded that way to me other than from those who go.. I have a bunch of university books sitting on my bed while I ponder through them and am greatly confused by one of the books I got simply because it says nothing of what I found on it and know of it from before. I mean, I have to work and go to school at the same time. I can't get a student loan. >.<;
People are all like "Oh, it's not exactly good to work at the same time" but I don't have many other options. If I do what I want after university, I'm going to end up so stressed out because I'll be working so much. XD So I don't know..

@hopexx5: sorry dude! Didn't mean to leave yo out of the conversation. As for why I learn, I do enjoy learning (especially if the teacher is awesome and enthusiastic), but also I have to. By serving in the military I was granted the G.I. Bill, which is free tuition and monthly stipens. So basically it is my job for the next two years that I have left. Alos I am motivated to have an education mainly because of my fiancee and our future family plans. I think it is better to have that education if I need to fall back on it to support my family.
@fenkashi: Yeah night clubs are nasty!! Sounds like you had a good time celebrating the finals!!
@foreignfilmfreak: University isn't so bad. It is actually more the hype of the finals rather than the finals themselves that are stressful. Finals roll around and think "OH no! Got to study!" and I work at it all stressed and then the final comes and I say, "What? THis is it?"
On a side note, grades were released today and I did a whole lot better than I thought I would! Drinking some Scottish ale to celebrate!

Ah, I see. D: Some people were talking about it with me and were all like "Pfft, you seem like you'd do fine". Which I'm glad about.
I am, however, laughing at one of the university pamphlets because I know what that area is like.. D: And my friends now have me terrified of big cities.

The thing of it is, FFF, is that MANY people work and go to school at the same time. I believe that I mentioned in the Tavern before that when I was attending college, I was pulling 12 units of night school, 4 three hr classes, one a night on Mondays thru Thursdays plus working from 50-70 hrs a week depending on whether I had to substitute for a driver or not.
After school (7-10PM) I would go to work and do homework for an hour then work on the schoolbuses until 8AM. If I was needed to sub for an absent driver, then I did, which was quite often, really. Then I'd go home and go to sleep. Wake up and play with my daughter and do homework... Then to class again. I did some driving on the weekends as well sometimes. Did homework when I could. Yes, it wasn't easy, but I did it. And if I can do it, then I know that others can as well.
I made the Dean's List (3.5 GPA or better) 2 or 3 times (forget which) and graduated after 2 yrs with honors.

The teachers who have become inspirational for me, the valuable friendships I've formed and simply the amount of knowledge and learning I've had access to isn't something I would choose any alternative over. Admittedly the education system is in need of a serious overhaul but in my opinion it's still a preferable option to home schooling - but I realise plenty of others disagree.
It might simply be because a lot of the people I've met who have been home schooled have a lot of trouble with social skills, so that's probably influenced me in my thinking. Anyway I'm the type who enjoys learning with others and teamwork a lot so it just wouldn't really suit me I think.
Back to the topic of the thread - I've barely got going on my exams D: Won't be until thursday next week that I'll be able to post on here that I'm all done.

I agree with you there, NC... I know a few words in a number of languages , mainly 'hello' and 'thank you' and some numbers, etc. I know a LOT of Spanish, but because of my lack of usage, I am far from fluent. Just today a lady was asking for directions from me and I was able to receive her info and direct her where she needed to go, all in Spanish. So even with not being fluent, I can still make myself understood and vice versa... I also learned American Sign Language, mainly the alphabet and numbering as well as a few signs. i used to know more, but have forgotten a lot over the years. Again, this has helped me to understand people who cannot speak that I have met over the years. It is slow and cumbersom for me, but at least I can be understood and , again, vice versa...
YAY, schools out... uh, about 30+ yrs ago...
still, never too late, right???

One of the many reasons i left my school was i was willing to sacrifice the people there in order to move on, i have made some good friends out of school now, alot of which are home educated including a guy who is of a few months older than me.
I agree in a way about the reasons language is taught, but i can always type in the words in google translate and repeat them to myself until i get it right.
I tend to act lone wolf when learning i was actually really rebellious in school, and never really got done what was ment to be done its was quite obviously not the right setting for me to learn in.
Home education has its ups and downs but for me its the right thing.
On the subject of exams, i toke a test exam on the Internet and scored 12 out of 15.

Google Translate cannot teach you a language. Even short sentences are likely to come out wrong, because different languages work differently, and the program isn't sophisticated enough to work it out. This is why, even though these programs exist, companies still hire translators.
And what was your online test on, if I may ask?
