What games do I like? Why?

I like adventure type games with interesting plots, as opposed to say... sports games, driving games. Although I do quite like horse-racing games and fishing games. But yeah, an interesting story is one of the most important parts of the game for me, I suppose because... well... it stops the game from becoming repetitive and/or boring after a short while. I like interesting characters too, characters that you can perhaps relate to or at least get to like.

What do I think of being female and a gamer? Do I find it weird/exciting/akward?

Well, there are very few people who know I'm a gamer and those that do have probably forgotten that by now. I don't have any particular opinions about it, I think it's a perfectly normal thing, certainly nothing to feel awkward or embarrassed about.

What do you want to tell the world about yourself?

Er... I know something about pretty much everything. Or so my friends tell me. I like drawing, be it manga or copying from photographs of nature. When I find something I like, I get obssessed. This can apply to pretty much anything, music, a game, an anime series or any other TV series, a director, a composer, you name it... I have tons of pets, I love animals and hope to become a zoologist, possibly specialising in reptiles or amphibians.

Who is my favorite video game character?

Oh no, do I have to choose one? Well... I guess it’s between Sly Cooper and Okami Amaterasu... hmm... I'll say Sly Cooper, I was playing Sly long before Okami arrived.

I think it has already entered the point where its just a videogame thread.

Anyway.
I wanna play MGS4 aswell, but dont have no PS3 and im not sure if Id buy it for that, as its the only exclusive i really care about. GTA4 and DMC4 are cominout for 360 aswell.
ASsassin's Creed looks really interesting. Im not sure if Id get it though.
I never liked the Slinter Cell stealth stuff, and Ive heard mixed reviews.
SOme sites like IGN giving it 7.0s and other sites giving it 10s.
I guess its not my type of game, though it does look very beautiful.

And I bought SMB3 on the VC.
WHat a perfect game.

No its a thread for Winged Bandit to do her school work on. Why don't you start a proper video game thread and leave WB to use this for the purpose it was intended? It's not difficult.

Ok then master.
I was just saying that there have been many non WB-homework VideoGame discussions on this thread, some involving you, and noone cared.

OK... Well I really don't mind too much, Just as long as I'm not ignored here....but we really should have a proper video game thread here.

Anyway, Website is done! Sort of... I had a lot of problems with DreamWeaver. Like... getting text to match other text... and why is it that images have to look horrible? I mean, I created something that looked quite good in photoshop, but then when I went to put it on the website the quality was forced way down. Consequently, all of the images look like poo. If anyone knows how to fix that... or get around that... it would be cool if you could tell me within the next 12 hours so I could fix it before I turned it in. Or you could just tell me and I will fix after I turn it in and hopefully teacher won't notice.
Anyway, here it is. Don't expect much, it is my first one after all.

That is very good. I like the fun youthful style you've used and I think the pics look fine, plenty clear enough for me.

The whole OPAC tagline and theme is nice, it works.

Thank you. That gives me hope. Also, did you see your contribution to the site? You're under the Thought of the moment

Its very nice, I like the style.
If you want reviews or anything, PM me.
I do play a lot nowadays.

You shouldnt deduct a whole point from the Mario Galaxy score though for the black hole thing.
Thats part fo the game, and to counterbalance it, 1up mushrooms are a lot easier to get and can be found everywhere. Ive fallen into loads of black holes but with 80 stars so far, I havent had a game over screen once.
I think its still a 10...

I wonder how many girls like FPS games, as girl gamers round here seem to go for adventure or RPG games.

PS: I really like the title.

I like how you've got a different banner for each page; it shows that you're making a real effort. I also like the general style of it. Overall, a very nice first try. ^_^

Whoa! That's really cool. I like how you've managed to integrate so much of the discussion into the webpage in a way that makes sense. The page titles ("Entertainment - Text" don't make a whole lot of sense though; you might want to change them. But the whole thing looks really fantastic! Now if only we could get more contributors...

Oh, and I noticed that I never responded to this:

Now that’s interesting. I have never replayed any linear game, ever. Once through and that is enough for me. “Linear” games to me are shooters or puzzle games or adventure games that are scripted to end in a finale. They don’t hold any appeal a second time round. But simulators, and in here I include driving games that are free-form (like the Midtown Madness franchise and Insane and such) will hold my attention for months.

I agree mostly. My favourite RPG, Crono Trigger, is nice in that it doesn't feel scripted even though it is. My other favourite RPG, Lunar, is 100% scripted. But I play it infrequently enough (maybe once every two or three years) that I've forgotten a lot of the puzzles, characters, and storyline. Plus it has good music and anime clipscenes. Ocarina of Time is kind of like a mix of the two, in that I play it infrequently enough to compensate for the linearity and it offers enough freedom to make up for any other shortcomings. Those are probably the only linear games that I own and consider any good. Oh, well, Pokemon is on the list, but nobody plays it for the storyline.

I can see why simulators would appeal to you. I would probably like them more, except that: A) I don't have any and B) they seem so close to normal life that they'd just be boring. Though educational.

quote:
I’m an older gamer and I’m reading this and what strikes me is why someone your age plays/played such ancient games. If I’m not mistaken you’re not yet 20 but you play games made years before you were born. How so?

Aah, yes. Even though I played video games in my childhood, I rarely (if ever) got any of the "new" things. I rented a few games, and if I really liked them then I convinced my parents to buy them when I found them used. And I happened to have babysitters who liked video games much more than me, and gave me all their stuff when the new systems came out. So I inherited a whole bunch of games as hand-me-downs, but at the time I was too young to even realize that much that they were old or out of date. I thought they were just fun.

Hm, thanks for picking up on those bits, I'm glad you finally saw them. And yeah, simulators appeal to a certain kind of mind.

Now girl gamers I can understand, but girls who play simulators I'm sure must be pretty rare.

Simulators can allow the nerdiest of nerds to have full rein if you let them. I'm not one but I still sometimes feel nerdy for even turning a simulator on!

Computer geeks for example, simulators appeal to the home-made rig builder who will endlessly tweak their system to squeeze that last little mhz out of their CPU.

And strangely enough I'm not one of them either.

I knew one who almost burned down his apartment because he tried to "squeeze that last little mhz" from his CPU and then it caught fire while he was asleep.

Im telling you, you should have a 360.
Burnout Paradise (coming out in Jan) is a racing game where you drive around a complete HUGE city.
ie: finishing and starting points are all there is to race, you can take the route you like.
The whole map is playable. Its a very unique look on gaming and somehting you might like. I can imagine myself playing htat for ages.
Especially as Burnout is the best (realistic, ie: after mariokart) racing franchise out there. Really fast past and adreline pumping.

Um... heh. I've forgotten what I was going to say... uh... oh yeah! Not that it's relevant, but Natsuki Takaya, author of Fruits Basket (YAY!), is just the kind of person you were describing there Saddles, I mean she seems to live for her games, and she plays lots and lots of RPGs and simulators. She writes all this in the margins in her books. I don't know how on earth she has time to write and draw when she's gaming all the time. What are her hands made of? Titanium alloys?
