I know that not all the Ghibli films are a barrel of laughs (Grave of the Fireflies, anyone?) but I like their sense of humour. It's gentle.

Male

Yes
5. which is your favorite Studio Ghibli film? and why?
My Neighbour Totoro
The music i love, gets stuck in my head sometimes and start singing to myself (in my head) all the way home on the train. It just a really fun entertaining film, with some depth (the whole mother in the hospital) if you want to see otherwise you can see it just as an entaining fantasy movie.
6. how old were you when you first watched a Studio Ghibli film?
27
7. which aspects of the films do you enjoy the most? (eg. the fantasy, the representation of gender, the action, the dialogue, etc)
The characterisation and storytelling is what draws me in with Ghibli movies. The musical scores are usually spot on too.

1. What country are you from?
Australia
2. How old are you?
Older than 22 but younger the 24…
3. Are you male or female?
Male
4. Do you enjoy watching Studio Ghibli films?
Of course I do
5. Which is your favourite Studio Ghibli film? And why?
It’s hard to pick, but I think it’s a close call between Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, simply because they both have such great story lines and leave you feeling all good inside afterwards…
6. How old were you when you first watched a Studio Ghibli film?
Good question, umm I can’t remember. Maybe 16 onwards
7. Which aspects of the films do you enjoy the most? (eg. the fantasy, the representation of gender, the action, the dialogue, etc)
Fantasy, storytelling and also the Japanese culture aspects. Not much for the subtitles in Studio Ghibli films as I like to search the film for characters reactions to moments in the films.

1. what country are you from?
Australia
2. how old are you?
50
3. are you male or female?
male
4. do you enjoy watching Studio Ghibli films?
Very much so. And they stand up so well to repeat viewings.
5. which is your favorite Studio Ghibli film? and why?
Princess Mononoke. Story depth, surprises around every corner. Outstanding artwork, character and backgrounds. Remarkable animation and action. How on earth do they animate Lady Eboshi firing her gun in battle? Just amazing. Probably no more than a dozen or so frames, but the impression is lasting. Many similar instances.
6. how old were you when you first watched a Studio Ghibli film?
about 47. Our multicultural channel (SBS) showed a series of Ghibli films (of which I had never heard) starting with Porco Rosso. After seeing the trailers during the week I resolved to watch the film, however, I missed the first 20 minutes. Didn't matter as I couldn't drag my eyes away from the screen for a second. Ghibli have captured the feel and magic of flight perfectly in this movie. In the following weeks they showed, Nausicaa, Kiki, Spirited Away, Laputa and a couple of years later Grave of the Fireflies. What a wonderful collection of movies!
7. which aspects of the films do you enjoy the most? (eg. the fantasy, the representation of gender, the action, the dialogue, etc)
First and foremost I have to say that while watching these films I feel like a fly on the wall. That is to say, that the characters are not at all self conscious. It is impossible to predict what might happen next, and the whole is not governed by censorship or a desire to please the audience. Something is happening, and you are seeing it. A story is unfolding as you are brought into the confidence of the story teller.
Secondly, the creators of these masterpieces love their work dearly and have the greatest respect possible for the media. They are uncompromising and I cannot imagine how they were not completely spent after the first film. This love is passed freely through the film to the audience. Watching a Ghibli film is like receiving a magnificent gift.
Next, the films which involve some elements of fantasy are brought to life with superb art work, an amazing imagination and attention to detail.
Studio Ghibli are quite amazing when representing dynamics. Character movements are wonderful to watch, and machine movements are usually spot on. eg. flight in Porco Ross, the mining gear in Laputa or the big bird licking Nausicaa with its huge fat tongue. Everything looks so right that you forget you are watching a movie (and animation at that), and you find yourself immersed in the fantasy.
Finally, all of the movies have their emotionally moving scenes, which make a close connection with me. Many ideas Ghibli have used seem to tug at my past. And most people I guess are affected in the same way. How do they do that? Must be a combination af many factors.
They are not afraid of including quiet (and reflective) scenes that allow characters (and the audience) space to think.
Ahh, it's hard to stop..! Bed time!
cheers ....Graham

4. of course
5. spirited away. Ghibli's best film to date, truly magical and immaginative. its fun to watch the characters change and become stronger people.... so to speak
6. 16
7. that which is not expected. I love the animation style, I love the way there is not really one main enemy, merely people and the way in which the main characters solve their problems.... or do not solve thjem. bleh.
