I have watched most of the Ghibli movies on DVD at home first, most i have rewatched on the train on my PSP to and from london (comuting is DULL).
Whisper of the heart (and voices from a distant star - though not ghibli) i first watched on my laptop while i was staying in a hotel in leicester for a training course.
I watched Totoro and Spirited away (though not my first viewing) on the PSP on the shincanson (can remmeber spelling bullet train basically) from Toyko to Kyoto.

That doesn't really address what me or Artoo said earlier in reply....They certainly have a good marketing team but it's also easier to use, more accessible and also connected to a very successful online music store. The fact that other mp3 players exist doesn't really have anything to do with the discussion, it's the way the iPod differs from there that makes it stand out.
This is coming from someone who doesn't own a single mp3 player or CD player, but I can tell these things when I see them.

sure lots of people need CD players, those who cant afford Ipods, who like to buy full CDs and listen to em not through a computer/ not download music.
yet as the price of the ipod decreases and wages increase, less and less people will probably use CD players
also many bands are going more digital by releasing their new albums on a thumbdrive instead of CDs. The main band thats currently doing this is "Barenaked Ladies"
