Hiya, E_Hakki. Nice to meet you.
I have started to read Goro Miyazaki's comments and they are quite eye-opening, both in terms of the analyses towards the Earthsea story and the accounts of his pre-Ghibli and current life.
Although I have not yet read the original Earthsea novel and have little idea on the animation production procedures, I can tell he is pretty sincere in his work. He well realizes what his limitations are and does not hesitate in learning from the expereinced. He also shows a tendency of striving to be good, if not the the best. So far Studio Ghibli and Producer Suzuki has never disappointed us. Hopefully the coming movie will be a worthy addition to the long line of Ghibli classics.
By the way the insightful comments on the story have convinced me to try my luck in getting the novel from wherever possible.
P.S. still I am a bit sad that Goro Miyazaki did not only inherit an interest in animation production from his father, but also the nasty smoking habit.

Hmph... Ursula K Le quin is virtually unknown here, and I can neither find her books in the local public libraries nor the mainstream book stores. I may have to try my luck in the university libraries, or import it via web stores like amazon.
In Japan, Director Hayao Miyazaki has been well known for being a smoker. IIRC, a survey was conducted some time ago to investigate the Japanese's attitude on smoking. One of the question was something like, "Which celebrity would you like to see abstaining from smoking?" "Hayao Miyazaki" and "Takuya Kimura (VA of Howl)" were two of the most popular answers.
Back to the topic, according to the newest blog entry (not yet translated in Nausicaa.net), the trailer has already been finished and was premiered in the studio. The director seems to be quite satisfied, while some of the staff feel that it is epic and moving. The 3-min long trailer will be shown in the Japanese theatres starting from 24th Feb.
Talking about the blogs in the official site, the "Production Diary" is also a nice read. It focuses not only on the production processes of Gedo and the studio's operation, but also various things, from comments on the Japanese and Korean animation trends, to weird stuff like "The mystery of 3465."
The newest "Production Diary" blog entry has no comment, just a picture.

Speaking of which, 20 years ago, when the film "Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind" was in production, my father suddenly said "You're riding a bike!" We went out to buy one straight away, which was good, but we couldn't find any helmets at all that would fit my head. When we finally screwed my head into an out-size helmet, I remember clearly the way my head seemed to spill out from under it.
Besides the upcoming feature, I definately read this kind of trivia.
