I've yet to see all of his films, or Paranoia Agent for that matter, but I have seen Millennium Actress and Paprika, which are both excellent. It's sad that such a big name in anime is no more.

That's terrible news. He was a visionary, a true original in the world of animation. Irreplaceable.

Oh wow, when I saw this thread I thought it was almost a joke, but jees, he will be sorely missed. I didnt like most of his films, but they were well done and of high quality. The anime world will be feeling this for a while.

Well, that's quite upsetting. Like, I don't know how to explain it.. ._. I was just like "You're kidding me, right?".

The second update moved me a bit on it. Also, it made me think of my family members with terminal cancer. I have a couple, or those with cancer that isn't well known. Like my aunt. It makes me sad that way. This summer a musician I like passed away again, and even though I didn't like his voice, I did like his lyrics. He had a heart condition and died fairly young, he couldn't have been older than thirty, and some of the lyrics I read of his were.. saddening. Now a director I like dies. Egh.

Its funny because I kept getting reminded of some movies of his the past couple weeks. Usually because of friends. I often carry Paprika on me strangely enough.

Oh, wow. The only director I know of who can be of Miyazaki's equal.

May he rest in peace.

Very saddening news indeed. Hopefully he will be remembered through his magnificent works.
This somehow made me think that old Miyazaki might be next. He is getting quite old, after all. I will probably cry when he dies.

What terrible news and what an awful loss to the industry. So young as well! This is a real blow.

I was unaware he had worked on one of the three 'Memories' shorts and I have that DVD and recall the story now - it being the best of the three OVAs in the compilation.

I have seen a number of images taken inside anime offices and one thing I always noticed was how heavily people seem to smoke.

Very very sad. I'm a fan of his work.

Remembered 3 years ago, queue'ing up to watch Paprika in Wellington film festival.

Terrible news for the industry.

Outside of the Pre-Ghibli and Studio Ghibli films, I've never really enjoyed other anime. Satoshi Kon was one of the few exceptions to that. May he rest in peace.

Let's just hope that Miyazaki-san can put down his work and spend some time with his friends and family that I believe he neglects. He's getting quite old, and I'd rather him do that than make more films. I think he would regret working himself to death.
