Ghibli Tavern vs. WingseePost Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Search for Posts by sho Report Post to a Moderator        IP Address Go to the top of this page

What do you people think? I just joined wingsee because I heard about it from a lot of the members here. I didn't make any comments or posts.

There does exist a thread there about other ghibli forums.

My problems with wingsee:

~I have problems with its interface - it's a bit harder to use
~There doesn't appear to be a very high energy level.

My problems with Ghibli Tavern:

~Not enough active members posting - sometimes it dies down a bit.
~Even the topics start do whittle and die after even very intense bursts of comments.

Any opinions?

The only reason the activity there is lower than here is because all the members there migrated here.

The situation used to be the opposite a while back.

On your problems, that happens in virtually every forum you go to. And like I said, there's only so much ghibli material you can talk about.

Wingsee really only has about 6-10 active posters. There must be many more than that here, plus here at least new faces come - some go but a few stay. Almost no-one seems to find Wingsee. There was a lot of spam issues on their forum recently for which in my book there is NO excuse so I dropped away and came here. Then just after that the RPG started up and another busy social thing in my life and I no longer have the time to go to Wingsee. I pop by now and again but its dead there. Sadly, as it was once a very nice community.

But as Roar says, meh, this is the internet, it happens.

im not sure if we need more people, but we need more people who know what they are talking about.

Roarkiller has seen a gazillion animes (thats why he is mr. Anomaly) and compare that to everyone else, our logical discussions cant happen, i think i might be in the top 5 of overall series watched and i havent seen that many.

if anything, we have an increase in spam every now and again, and otherwise useless comments, this board is basically a chat room for all of us. i can see why some experienced larger members of busier fourms wouldnt come here as it can be out of control.

ive been lobbying for moderators to maybe keep things semi-sane around here. this is the only real fourm i go to as it is hard to fit in to somewhere like animesuki where there are several thousand regular posters and they all have knowledge on anime vastly superior to mine. i like the idea of being a big fish in a small pond.

just my 2 cents on the state of the message board address.

Yeah that's kinda how I feel too. Before discovering Ghibli Tavern, I posted fairly regularly on Veritaserum - the best Harry Potter site on the net. Here on Ghibli, there's a smallish group of consistent, regular posters. On Veritaserum, you couldn't have conversations - there were simply too many threads and too many people to keep track of. Of course new members are, and always will be, welcome here. Heh, I'm being a little selfish here though: I want them to stay out of the RPG. If there's too many players I'm afraid the pace could get too fast and it will get confusing. That's mean. Oh well.

It might be true that wingsee members migrated over to Ghibli Tavern but the other big reason is that Ghibli Tavern now holds the number 1 spot on Google for a search on "ghibli forum" while wingsee holds the number 2 spot, and people will always come to Ghibli Tavern first. And because this forum is more popular, people will tend to join this one over that one, which is why more new posters come here than on wingsee. It's a cycle, basically, new members come here because it's more popular, therefore making it more popular, so that other new members will come here because it's more popular...etc......

Actually, I don;t think people 'search' for a ghibli forum. I'm not sure how you guys ended up here but we currently have #1 spot on google for "studio ghibli", so people come here for the content, then they find our community.

i.e. here's this month's top 10 keywords for O.G.
34.89% studio ghibli
13.12% ghibli
2.59% online ghibli
2.24% ghibli studio
1.13% ghibli studios
1.04% studio ghibli films
0.94% nausicaa
0.91% totoro
0.82% porco rosso
0.72% studio ghibli movies

Yeah, that's just my experience, I came here by searching for "Ghibli forum". Although I am surprised to see onlineghibli is the first result for Studio ghibli. I imagined Nausicaa.net would hold that spot (by the way, their mailing list is a great place for serious discussion).

I was excited about Gedo Senki. I'm not sure about the exact chain of events, but I eventually ended up here.

I think that might have happened to me too.
I read about it somewhere and looked around for a week or two and then joined.

I used to be more of a regular wingsee poster, but I left over the summer, and by now it seems to be VERy quiet around there.
It used to feel like here, but smaller. now it feels like theres nothing at all going on.
If any wingse goers want me to comeback regularly, i can do that.
I just didnt see the point when I realsied that except for one post, the latest psots are all 5 days old.

A + at wingsee is that it always has the better games.
There was the ghibli link gmae, the ghibli quiz, and my favourite..
The AMAZING ghibli screenshot comp.
That was VERY entertaining.
Oh good old days.

And i like it here too.
Its familiar enough to get to know everyone and have fun.
YEAH!

you could have always brought those games over here?

that would have helped kill some of the dead time that we had for a while.

I'm all for playing those games again here. They were great. Ayami had a good idea for a 20 questions guess the character game too. I think that'd fit in nicely.

Please Guys, don't rip the heart out of 'wingsee'!

Leave those threads where they were created, and become members there instead.

I'm itching to come back online more, but presently work, bathroom refurbishment and the childrens homework is eating into any spare time I have!

See ya, oh and by the way, are you still planning to visit London soon JRR?
