One i found a long time ago. A very original one i think, not your average NGE AMV, and not an obvious song to choose, but I think it works well on many levels.

Well, if you like Haruhi then I'm sure you'll love that one, and like you said Saddles, the lyrics do fit very well. But I don't really know the character and I'm not sure I want to so, meh.

Here's an Akito AMV I found a while back, I think it's the best one I've come across. Like in your one Saddles, the lyrics fit the character really, really, well. As does the mood of the song.

It's strange... why would an anime studio change the gender of a main character?

And your sexual orientation has nothing to do with finding a character appealing. I find lots of male anime characters appealing in a "I wish I was like that" or "He's cool, I'd like to know him" way, so don't worry about it.

In the FB manga, it's a closely guarded secret that Akito's female. It isn't even revealed to the readers until volume 17 or 18. I suppose it just simplified things for the show's writers, although I must say, including that element would have done away with the 2 or 3 filler episodes quite nicely.

As to finding same-sex characters appealing, yeah, it's fine, for example I like the character Haruhi Fujioka (no, not Suzumiya!) from OHSHC very much. It's just some people can take it the wrong way if they see you talking about someone like Akito in a fangirl-ish way, because Akito can be taken as a guy or a girl. Some people stubbornly maintain that Akito is a girl, end of story, because that's what she is in manga. But, really, he/she can be either.

Just thinking while I am typing, and listening to one of my favourite songs. I think that The Archer's Bows are Broken by Brand New would make a wicked NGE AMV. The lyrics are perfect.

And in other new, I normally don't watch amvs, but I did watch that Haruhi one and it was very good, I love the song, really catchy.
