@#1sanfan: yeah, my Rei/Ronald MacDonald thing was just a silly example, but my point stands - anyone can convince anyone else to change their view, if they are skillful and persuasive enough. Happens all the time whether its in anime viewing, politics, global warming, right to bear arms (hmm...) or whatever.
Sure the flip-floppers, the delittants(?sp) will blow like corn in a wind, but even the concrete posts can be knocked over eventually.
I bet there is a persuasive person out there on this planet who can convince me that Porco Rosso is a better movie than Whisper of the Heart. I would really love tp met them and be convinced, but that is my point - I disagree with your view that "opnions can't be changed": they can.

They can but it isnt easy, certian people, me included, can be very stubborn, even if im wrong i will still argue my point to try and save face. yes, you can change someones mind, hell, the russians could brainwash people easyily enough during the cold war, so it is ignorant of me to say that the opinions cant be changed, but if you really do think your right, and have a good beief system, you will stay true to it.

Ah, no. That would be cheating. That is your conscience telling you you've lost, so that won't count. And I was excluding brainwashing/torture, obviously you can get most people to say anything if you use illegal methods. I was just keeping within the original remit of the thread - one anime fan talking to another anime fan and convincing them to change their view by simple skill, knowledge and power of persuasion.
Hm, what was the original topic BTW?

Well, i that does happen sometimes with an arguement, but hte original topic was can you create an anime or fictional work that does not have any inner meaning and is simple a story, face value nothing more.
Roarkiller answers yes, i answer yes because i watched one, Princess Nine, it was about baseball and i enjoyed the story so much i plan on fanfic-ing it.
i think you and Arren answered no, but i could be wrong that was a long time ago.

I'm a bit like that. But to avoid looking like a total idiot, I alter my argument slightly until the other person sees my point.
The subject matter of this thread hasn't really changed a huge amount in spite of the debate.

lol, i do that alot too, you should see some of these government guy in these Philosophy vids were watching, they have the reporters disprove there entire theory and they try so hard to save there dignity, its kinda sad. when i am a big time politician ill try to avoid this.
and you are right, our disscusion did fall on the same lines of what i set it out to be, so the points raised and countered were very well done.

Don't try that with me, I'll see that you are changing your argument and catch you out
But, yeah, its been a good thread. Lots of noise on this forum but once in a while a really good thread comes along and best of all, no one spams it.
