quote: "Sorao, are you feeling alright? All of my posts have been saying that what you said is correct and it is correct because that's how it should be pronounced just by looking at the spelling alone. And that the pronunciation in Japan is correct according to the symbols. o_0 Did you lose track of the thread somewhere? "
Apparently so XD. I was so caught up in my passion to prove to the world that you should say "Pocky" like "Pokki/Pokey" that I seem to have not really clearly read you're posts. Gomen nasai!
(Btw, JRR, when I wrote "Pokki", I thought it would come across close to "Pokey"

We are arguing how to prounounce a PRODUCT, not a word. Unless you happen to teach the word "Pocky" in your curriculum, it really doesn't matter how you would pronouce it.
You can argue into me all you want, and stride into Japan with your stance that everybody around you is saying "Pocky" incorrectly. It's probably not going to change pea
"Pokki" is how everybody in Japan says it. It's probably not going to change unless you start some revolution on how everyone says "Pocky". What I'm saying is that you can choose to pronounce it like everyone (in Japan) does, or you can look aloof and very gaijin.

My point is, that set rules about pronounciation don't matter!
It's like the word "feisty" in english. It's pronounced "Faisty", but I could argue, "Oh, english rules say that you're supposed to say 'fay-sty'."
It's just how it's said, and it's the name of a product, which makes it even more exempt from normal language rules.

The romaji doesn't matter - it's still pronouced "Pokey/Pokki" in Japan!

Then again, if you were to talk about Pocky in Japan, it would be referred to as "Pokey". It does have to do with how the "o" sounds. For example, Rock Lee.
Most english speaking would most likely say "Rawk Lee", but if you actually listen to the voice actors, they do say "Rooku Lee". It probably has something to do with the romanjisiation (sp?) of english words.

Actually, I was just complaining about how many bishojo artists go over the top drawing bishonen, because the term "bishonen" doesn't really have a direct link to "effeminate".

Wow, what an interesting forum lol~
It always disturbs me when manga artists go waay over the top with the effeminate thing, though. There are a lot of people who are considered real bishonen in Japan, but I mean, bishonen doesn't necessarily mean "effeminate."
Directly translated its pretty much just "beautiful boy".

That's true, but everybody in Japan still pronounces it "Pokey". It's kinda because there are other English words (such as "rocky" which are pronounced like that, so people believe that is also how you say "pocky"
(Rocky is pronounced "rokey" in Japan)

Yes, it's written "Pocky".
I am 100% sure you pronounce it "Pokey". I know this firsthand, ask anyone in Japan.

Yeah, honestly, I don't think those pictures of Asaba-san really fit the image I had in mind. I think it's something to do with the hair, because Sho-kun's hair never really hangs in the front, it's a lot more....shaped? I'll look for more pictures~
I'm aware that you had pretty much written out my character. And I PM'ed you, Saddletank-san.

I will...steer away from the yaoi @.@
But as for those pictures, in my honest opinion, they didn't really fit my image of what Sho-kun looked like. I did hunting around the net for some good pictures that looked more anime-like, and I found this:
Courtesy of Fizzingwhizbee5.
It's like.....halfway between anime and real life.

Yeah, I know I'm dancingquote: "...his feminine looks and slim frame worked well in the flowy style he used, all waving arms."
I'm...not quite sure that's how I would dance but...
And this "bishie" thing has nothing to do with me, does it? (I haven't done my reading yet, only searched "sho " to see what's happened to my character)
