"Beatless!" by Satoshi Hase.
The first few chapters are available online in its official website as pdfs and that is why I am reading it. Good old science fiction filled with action and moral dilemma. The cute android girls are certainly a plus.

The first one I saw in the theatres was Nausicaa, when I was only a kindergarten kid. The only thing I remember is that I cried during the show and my dad took me to the toilet to beat me up.
So far I've also watched Spirited Away, Howl, Earthsea, Ponyo and Arrietty in the theatres. I would love to see Totoro and Kiki on the gigantic theatre screen, but everytime the local theatres have a rerun of the Ghibli lineup all tickets are immediately sold.

Well, never.
Because here I have no chance....our country has limitions to Japan Animation Movies.
There will be a screening of recent anime movies in Shanghai in early December. There won't be any Ghibli stuff though. Still it deserves a round-trip to Shanghai just for seeing Uchuu Show he Yokoso (an innocent and fun anime film that Ghibli fans will love) on a big theatre screen

I was lucky enough to visit there twice. The second time, I ended up in Repulse Bay on the paddle boats with a nice English girl... She said she lived there and her father was some kind of official...

Oh I haven't been to Repulse Bay for so long. It is really a nice (but sometimes crowded) place to spend a summer afternoon.

Jiji, are you still in Hong Kong?
I think 'current location' has more value than 'place of origin'.
Oh yes. At least until the end of this week.

Server-tan is certainly a tsundere. She will diss you for not meeting just one of her requirements, and will still troll you even if you have done nothing wrong.
Just keep trying though and I am sure she will go deredere gradually. If she doesn't, poke one of the admins to give her a good smack on the head.
Anyway welcome to the Tavern!

@ fenkashi: Thanks, and see you around .
@ Saddletank: Thanks. Btw don't you think it would be much cooler to have Asuka from On Your Mark as your avatar?

Bold.
Since my character is completely opposite to being bold.

Comics or novels?

Full Moon wo Sagashite, lol. The only anime the "anime club" discussed.
I was here when it opened. But that would be one helluva old story to tell.
Oh I do remember that.
As well as a couple of pseudo-intellectual debates that started as Ghibli topics and gradually derailed into philosophical realm.
Btw I guess I can well qualify as a de facto newcomer for being away so long. I am Jiji and nice to meet you all.

I wouldn't call TCR a sequel either since the major plots of the two stories are not connected. But whether you like it or not, the shared characters and elements are already enough to make TCR worthy as a spin-off of Whisper, at least in the generally accepted sense.
Oh I have the Death Star ready too, FYI.

Unless there is another studio that has secured the rights to produce Howl's anime from the original author, or there was a malicious takeover of Ghibli and the whole of the current Ghibli management is kicked away, the chance of seeing a Howl's sequel is close to zero.
Well, Disney probably has enough monetary power and talents to initiate a takeover, and turn Ghibli into a nice fat cash cow . It has already swallowed Pixar alive, after all.

The first paragarph isn't really that important, but here is the translation.
"Long time no see.
Thanks to countless troubles as well as the tonnes of homework that I can never finish, I don't really have the spare time to waste like before. So I would like to use this reply as an exercise on Japanese."

So it seems that the system in Singapore and here are pretty similar: weekly classes and extended breaks. I really hate those breaks since they serve close to no purpose at all. They are too short to fit in other Japanese courses, unless one is wealthy enough to hire a personal tutor or join a short-term exchange programme.
Anyway, I occasionally chat in the Japanese BBS for practice if I happen to have some free time on hand (which is actually quite rare). Once I encountered someone that posted a one-line-reply to my message: '' いきなりなれなれしく書き込むことなんてしないほうが
いいですよ ''. I was not sure if he was offended since I used ''俺(オレ) and お前(オマエ),'' or was simply giving a friendly advice. But since then I have always been using keigo, just to play safe. The whole moonspeak hierarchy system is a great headache indeed (^_^;; )

Just some answers to Roarkiller's questions. It is in Japanese as some technical terms are difficult to translate to English. I can as well have some practice on written Japanese.

how did they go?
Well the results won't be out until somewhere like early March. Anyway school works and projects are lining up like a long queue. Gotta back to lurking mode for now.

hmm if i can't find this boxset, does anyone know a good site/store that sells alot of the ghibli movies for a good price? I guess i would prefer the new disney versions if possible. I wouldn't mind buying them seperately if i can get most of them shipped in 1 shot.
If worst comes to worst i guess i would have to buy each movie for like 35CAD
I can probably track one of those boxsets for you in some small shops in my city, but not without great difficulty. The last time I saw one on shelf was like a year ago. Not to mention that I have zero experience in dealing with overseas shipping...
For the R1 releases, occasionally there are bundle sales in the chain stores that allow you to buy two and get one free (or with a discount). I am not really familiar of the details though, and probably offers like these have already been ended a long time ago.
Or if you are patient enough, you may wait for the next-gen releases on Blu-ray or HD-DVD. Currently there doesn't seem to be any news on the plan of releasing them in HD though...

maybe the problem will solve itself if we just give it some time -.-.... we had this prob before and then it was fixed for a while
/sighhhhhhhhhhh
Oh it's really too bad .
Not only the avatar uploading page in the personal profile section fails to work properly, those in other sections in the forums are funky too.
I have checked the CHMODS of the directories and it doesn't seem to have any problem. Moreover, the uploading function of the main-page news script is working properly too. Most probably a problem of either the php scripts of the board, or certain tables in the sql database dedicated to avatar stuff...
Well we can only wait-and-see. Actually when I first joined these forums in another account a long time ago, it took me about a week to get my avatar uploaded.
Anyway, to everyone who is reading this message, please DO NOT TRY TO CHANGE YOUR AVATAR in the meantime if you already have a working one. Sorry for the inconvenience. m (_ _) m

The only legit Ghibli DVD boxset is from Hong Kong instead of Taiwan. If you were 100% sure that a certain R3 set is from Taiwan, it would certainly be a bootleg. There are legit Taiwan releases in the form of individual discs, though.
For the boxset, you don't really get much more than a certificate as well as some postcards aside from the box.
Oh it seems that it is now out-of-print...
