Heh, I was just playing on a Japanese website I go to and noticed a couple of people talking about seeing Kaze Tachinu. Didn't understand the conversation well, obviously, but got bits of it, which was nice. I use the site because the English version of it was shut down a while ago, and since it was somewhere I spent time on every day, I missed it. Now it's added motivation - the more I learn, the easier it'll be to navigate the place...
Oh that's cool!! Good luck with the lessons! I work for that company and am responsible for the Dutchpod101 series. Good to hear you like it!

I am okay with it..
We have this girl..eh...boy...now she looks 100% girl...was born as boy eh.. WELLLLLLL!!! I just wish she/he sometimes wears a shirt that says " I AM ACTUALLY A BOY" cause she/he has me fooled any times. I think the first time i saw her on tv (quite a common guest here on jap tv) I thinking "kawaiii!", when asking my wife about who she is, she told me that it`s Ai Haruna. Born male..now women.

Some kids blew it there today, tho... I am probably the most easy going guy around these kids, but today some of them were out of control.
Some of the older boys/girls club kids were as usual being rowdy and had been spoken to more than once by the lifeguards, who they generally ignored. However, at one point they were crowding in around me, chasing some younger kid and I mean a whole mass of kids surged after this kid and I heard and watched as some said "go ahead and punch him, no one will hit you back, we'll back you up" and I said "Hey, boys, cool it" which they ignored.
The old lion (or I should say, Husky) roared!
"THAT IS ENOUGH!!! Stop coming around and trying to start fights... Back off and break it up, NOW!!!"
All of this in a loud, strong voice. They split up,"we didn't do nothing' 'we didn't say to hit anyone" and various other denials. Afterwards, i got a thumbs up from the two lifeguards closest to me and one later said the main guys were within a hairs breadth of being kicked out for the rest of the summer.
hahaha, wsn't funny at the time, but you should have seen the 8 to 10 troublemakers scatter, lol...
Well done...the world needs more people like you

Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi will always be special to me. It was the first ever Ghibli production that I saw. The whole movie was an amazing adventure and after that I was hooked

Man, I haven't heard that tune in ages. It was a hit here in the States, way back when. I had learned it, prety much phonetically back then.
Also, I love the dish, sukiyaki, hardly any place serves it here.
Catchy tune ne? Will give it a shot at karaoke next time haha. Ah that is really a great dish , i like it as well. Can`t find it there? Good thing it`s easy to make yourself.

I must say that the bars that I went to when in Yokosuka were in the Honcho-cho area of Yokosuka, basically places like the Black Rose, the ****kickers Bar and the Brassrail to name a few, that catered to the Fleet. And remember, this was in 66-67.
I knew enough Japanese that I would get on a train and travel to someplace I'd never been before and get off and walk around, usually ending up in a little local bar. I had a lot of fun meeting people that spoke little English and had many an uproarious conversation where we barely understood what the heck we were saying to one another.
A young man I met on a train home from work one day came to the house with me and we became friends. I lost track of him shortly after we moved back to the States. His family invited my family for the weekend at their rice farm about 25 klicks outside of Tokyo. We climbed Mt Tskubasan (sic) while there. (Mitio and I)
Mitio Takahashi was his name.
Yokosuka will always have a special place in my heart and will move back there when I have the chance. Your experiences are great and reminds of some I have had here. THe encounters with the locals are just great. Specially where we live now..outside Tokyo and nothing but ricefields and local people who never spoke english, let alone seen a foreigner in real life lol. Amazing how they have an interest for you , although some are shy or just not interested in a gajin.
That`s too bad you lost contact, isn`t there a way to find him? You still have an adress or something?

hahaha, funning with ya, Flatwheels....
When we lived in Yokosuka we had a JKC Dachshund named 'Miss Emma of Opamesao" which is as near as I can get to spelling it properly. I was on the same ship as my stepdad during the mid-sixties and we were homeported in Yokosuka. We lived at the Yokohama Naval Housing complex and later in Hayama-Kokusai, a suburb of Yokosuka.
No worries lol..always in for a laugh. But dude! How cool is that?! I lived in Yokosuka when I came to Japan. My wife was working in Yokohama (travelex) and had an apartment in Yokosuka. Shin-Otsu station..Did you go to Morrigans ( irish bar?)

Just thought I'd mention this one. Unfortunately they have not much and don't ship outside the Netherlands. So..sorry if this is completely useless *blush*
