The visuals really are odd for a Ghibli film. Apparently Goro is trying to artistically distance himself even further from his father.

I don't think it will be anytime soon. From what I've heard none of Ghibli's movies are available for streaming (with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions).
It's kind of fitting that this studio would embrace physical media like DVDs. But it's also a missed opportunity. If people are desperate they're going to get these movies online anyway, so it would be economically beneficial for Ghibli to just make them available on a legitimate site.

On some of these it's been several years since I saw them, but here is an attempt.
A: Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Princess Kaguya
B: Howl's Moving Castle, Totoro, Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, Arriety
C: Wind Rises, Poppy Hill
D: Kiki, Porco Rosso, Only Yesterday, Ponyo, Castle of Cagliostro
E: ...
To be honest I think even the weakest Ghibli's are still decent.
Coming soon (hopefully): The Cat Returns, Yamadas, Marnie, Whisper of the Heart, Pom Poko, Fireflies, Earthsea

Sorry, no.
It's not from Spirited Away but the speaker is some sort of sorceress.

For underrated, probably Kaguya. It's an amazing film but seems not to get the recognition it deserves. It's long been a problem that non-Miyazaki entries aren't considered in the same league. I actually consider Kaguya better than many of Miyazaki's films.
Overrated could be Spirited Away, only because its widespread recognition has resulted in many people thinking it's the only Ghibli film worth watching.
Totoro could also be overrated. It's the first Ghibli I ever watched, so I have a deep personal connection with it, but I'll admit the story sort of drags in places. It's great that the totoro images have become synonymous with the studio, but I don't think this particular movie represents their peak work.

This is shocking and terribly sad. A devastating loss for Ghibli.

The first Ghibli film I watched was Totoro. It was probably 17 or so years ago. It was the original English dub from the early '90s and we found it at the library on VHS. It became an instant favorite and the next one I saw was Spirited Away. I actually saw that one in the theaters. By that point there was no turning back and I was a Ghibli fan for life.
Today I've seen every Miyazaki film and almost every Ghibli film at least once. They are in a league of their own and no other set of films can evoke the feelings they can.
I prefer to collect the films on DVD to rewatch when I please. I haven't been to any conventions. My ultimate dream would be to visit the Ghibli museum in Japan but that's unlikely to happen anytime soon.
Interactions with other fans have mostly been limited to this site or other online forums. Of all the people I've talked to about Ghibli, only a small handful had ever heard of it before.
And good luck on your assignment! I hope you stick around here. New members are always welcome.

I wish they wouldn't, but as long as it's simply translating the words it's no big deal.
The problem comes when they produce entirely new content. I can't stand when Disney thinks they have to Americanize or Disney-fy the music by putting in new vocal songs to Ghibli films. The worst offenders are on Kiki, Ponyo, and to a lesser extent Arrietty. It's horribly incongruous to have genuine Japanese films and ruin the mood with something so distinctly American. Not to mention such alterations are sure to "date" the film in the future.

True, but at least they kept it until the very end. I don't think it distracted from the film and the rest of the soundtrack was beautiful.
