Posted by arren18 on 11.16.2015, 09:58 AM: Wow, it's not every day somebody returns here after six years! This place isn't as active as it once was, although there have been a few new members in the last little while so it's picked up a bit again. Anyway, welcome back!

Posted by Dark Totoro on 11.16.2015, 10:02 AM: I think what happened was, I thought "Hmm.. I wonder what happened to that one Ghibli forum.. I guess I'll check it out"..
|
Posted by Dark Totoro on 11.16.2015, 10:04 AM: Also.. How do you stay dedicated to the forum for so long? Does it not exhaust you?
|
Posted by Saddletank on 11.16.2015, 10:10 AM: The people. They are what make me stay. They are amazing, and we have mutually seen each other grow over the years. Its a privilege to be a part of that; this place is like no other forum on the internet.

Posted by arren18 on 11.16.2015, 10:43 AM: I don't actually post all that much nowadays, maybe just once or twice a day, so it's not exactly a great time/energy investment. And I agree with Saddles, it's about the people who are here. On some other forums I didn't know people so well, so when numbers dwindled on those, I didn't really stick around. But here, even though quite a few old members have disappeared or just don't show up much anymore, there's always a core of people I know and like, and it keeps me coming back to see what they have to say.

Posted by paperbullet on 05.01.2016, 04:01 PM: I've also returned to the forums after an equal length away - six years. Haven't logged on since 2009. Would like to be a regular. |
Posted by belborges on 05.01.2016, 09:42 PM: Please do, paperbullet, although most members aren't as active anymore... |
Posted by fenkashi on 05.02.2016, 09:40 PM: Welcome back paperbullet we are having a very slow period in the forums but we're still around! Hope to see more of you. Tell us what you've been up to and all that.

Posted by paperbullet on 05.06.2016, 03:52 PM: I left for my mission in Argentina from 2010-2012, then returned and went to college, which kept me plenty busy for the next 3.5 years. (I'll be finishing up in December.) That's the short version.

Posted by Theowne on 05.08.2016, 01:28 AM: I too find it amazing how this long this forum has been pushing along. It seems every time I check back here not knowing what to expect, it still has some level of activity moving it forward from the regulars. The internet has really changed so much since the days when I first joined this site (almost 10 years ago!), so there's something very nostalgic and heartening about that. Today's social media landscape is unrecognizable to a decade ago (kind of like how folks in those days used to talk about newsgroups and such). Who would have guessed logging onto an internet account to have conversations would become something everyone did (Facebook, Twitter) rather than a niche of people on forums?

Posted by Saddletank on 05.08.2016, 03:31 AM: Being of an older generation (though that isn't the entire reason) I never got into facebook, twitter and such. The whole social networking thing completely passed me by. It seemed so shallow and bland. I am still a forum user and this one plus 2 or 3 others, each of which caters for a specific interest of mine, are where I hang out on the internet.

Posted by Theowne on 05.08.2016, 11:08 AM: I remember Facebook being a new thing right when I was leaving high school. My close friends and I messed around with it but it was more of a toy than anything. The generation in school and university right now uses it like crazy, though, and their routines are filled with these minute interactions with hundreds of people. I don't really know if it's a good or bad thing, it's just different (and something I've had to get used to as it does play some role in networking these days).
