For a while, RK did manual activation for new members; but I think it may drive some real posters away too b/c people have no patience these days.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. I wonder if there's something else that can be done to tackle the problem... How about having new members fill out Captchas for their first ten posts or something?

Mm, probably are... Then again, there are different types of Captchas these days too. Some need you to recognise pictures of objects or answer easy questions, things like that. It's an idea, anyway. Even if it didn't solve the problem completely, it might help. ^_^
