What Movie(s) did you watch today?

As I pointed out in some other thread, there isn't really a thread dedicated to non-anime movies in here. So I thought I'd make one.
And instead of letting everyone talk about their favourite movies, which would be a chaos, I thought I'd limit it to people mentioning any movies they saw that day, what they thought of them, and other people adding their own thoughts on that.

That keeps it nice and simple and might be a way of recommending good stuff to others... or maybe even warning them (as in the case of "Nanny Diaries", do NOT watch that!).

I've got a few things to mention. As this is the first post, I'll make an exception an include yesterday as well!

Yesterday noon I watched "7 years in Tibet" for, I think, the 3rd time. I really like that film. It's very warm, very beautiful and very poetic. And Brad Pitt has a decent accent in it. It's not in my top 10 or anything, but it's a truly wonderful film that's most definitely worth watching.

Last night I watched "Hallo Dienstmann" for the second time. It's an old Austrian comedy from, I think, the late 40's. It's absolutely brilliant and probably my 2nd fave comedy of all time (after the original "To Be or Not to Be" , and the characters are absolutely amazing, but unless you speak german, it's really waste to talk about it. If you do though (and well, it's pretty heavy austrian slurring), this is a MUST!

This morning I saw "The Lives of Others" for a third time. Absolutely amazing movie. So wonderful. Makes you feel so good afterwards, eventhough the topic of it is sooo serious and heavy. Wonderful acting, wonderful music by Gabriel Yared, wonderful emotions. Truly amazing film and 100% deserving of the Oscar it won.

And this night I saw "Casino Royale" again. Makes me love Daniel Craig even more. Makes me love James Bond even more. Makes we less patient about the sequel (with an awesome poster ). I can not wait.

As you see, when it's up to me.... I try to only watch good films.

I didn't realise it was a direct sequel. I'd thought it would just be separate, like the other Bond films. Either way, I'm looking forward to it too.

Yes, Casino Royale was the best Bond movie in years. Daniel Craig was a far more gritty, earthy Bond I thought, less of a smart-ass playboy, more of a man. Interesting that for the very first time there will be a sequel. Trish will be very happy!

This morning I watched Wayne's World again.
Though the characters are really funny, it's full of many unique gags, it didn't really stand up to the test of time as much as many other films have. It's very much a film making jokes of the culture of the moment, and now being 15 yrs old it seems a little outdated and very... 80s (though it's 90s).

I just finished watching the "documentary" of sorts "The Beatles, Their First US Visit". A film made when footage was taken as the Beatles made their first trip to the US. It's quite an old film, and although you kinda get the idea that it's quite harmless there are many moment's where you see more than the Beatles facade one is so used to. You even see them genuinely annoyed a few times. All in all very good. And the few performances featured were, as always in a Beatles performance, absolutely brilliant. To anyone who likes the Beatles. Must watch.

And I'm planning to watch Once upon a Time in the West again tonight. Let's see if I get around to that. I also have to complete Half Life 2; episode 2 again before I leave tomorrow.

I saw the live action Honey and Clover movie the other day. It was pretty good, really good in parts, though very different from either the manga or the anime.

Good enough that I watched it again.

I watched Juno yesterday, and it's deserving of all the hype. It's such a pleasant surprise to see a film both well-crafted and uplifting; usually the well-crafted ones are depressing, and the uplifting ones are so dull and formulaic that they end up being depressing anyway. Juno actually made me feel happy, and the end had me close to tears of joy. Ellen Page is a genuine talent, and the whole thing more or less succeeds because of her performance; the film would have been a disaster with a Hillary Duff or Lindsey Lohan in the lead. It helps, I suppose, that she's held up by all-around terrific supporting performances, but still, she carries the bulk of the film on her shoulders and never hits a false note. I gather she's been acting for some time, and her performance in Juno makes me very curious to see what else she's done up to this point. I'll definitely be following her career in the future.

Bless Canadian actors

Juno was just awesome. I think it got a little stiffed at the Oscars, but screw the awards, it is a great film that is funny, serious, and at times ridiculous.

Last movie I watched, to steer on topic, was Bank Job. It was okay, but nothing special. I wouldn't pay to see it again.

i watched pirates of the carribean at worlds end. it was good and funny at some points with a butt-kicking climax, but i was really confused as to who was bad and who was good by the end.

"Jumpers"

It was alright, but seemed to jump around (really, no pun intended) too much and was hard to follow at times. It was kind of sappy to me, which, don't get me wrong, sometimes I like a sappy movie, but not this one...

Yeah Jumpers wasn't too good.

I saw There Will be Blood yesterday.
Absolutely amazing. Sooo deep, soo beautiful, so intense.
And such a wonderful score!

I watched Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix for the third time last night. Hadn't seen it in a while, really enjoyed it.

My favourite moment? Lucius Malfoy finally gets Harry to hand over the prophecy, then Sirius appears behind Malfoy, says "Get away from my godson." and punches Malfoy in the face. Then Malfoy accidentally smashes the prophecy. I'm like "HA! Sucker!". Although I do like the Malfoys. They're cool. Can't wait to see Draco get slashed to pieces in the next one.

I just watched Michael Clayton. Excellent movie all-around: great plot, performances, dialogue, cinematography. The plot can be pretty confusing and disorienting at first, but if you just keep watching you'll start to figure out what's going on bit by bit, and after a while everything comes together into a tight, suspenseful, cohesive thriller. I don't know if Tilda Swinton deserved Best Supporting Actress, but she was very good, as was George Clooney. It was Tom Wilkinson, however, who stole the show in my opinion; he was very deserving of his Best Supporting Actor nomination, and maybe even deserved the win.

I watched Naqoyqatsi in the morning. The last of the Qatsi trilogy. It was rather good, though I like the first two better. Philip's music is brilliant as always. And now I've just finished Heat( for at least the 4'th time). De Niro and Pacino are just the best. Definately one of my favourite movies.

@Tsuko...

I have the Qatsi trilogy and, well liking them all, my favorite is the first one, Koyanisqatsi...

Which I think I will play right now, thank you for the reminder...

I love the different rhythms and tempos in it...
