Innocent W vol 1 & 2

Manga! Haven't read any for a while but did some catching up tonight.

Right now:

Lovely Complex vol 11
W-Juliet vol 10
Bokura ga Ita vol 4
Mars vol 5
The Bride of the Water God vol 2 (so pretty!)
Yokohama Monogatari vol 1

As for the two threads they're kinda different...one is a review kind of thread and this one is a list kind. I'm sure we can have both.

ooh and just started Hotaru no Hikari

One of these days, I hope to actually finish all of these.

Thing is though that for people wanting to look for a manga to read they need to browse two threads rather than one.

These 'list' threads really are pointless except for socialising and then they should really be in the General area, if we're going to discuss manga so the thread is useful for forum members to learn something then lets do that - on one thread.

Posted by fenkashi on 01.17.2008, 06:12 AM:

Well yes, there's that. I don't really care myself but I suppose it'd be easier just looking in one. Too bad Roar doesn't have a merge button. That would be useful.

True, he's limited by this clunky old forum software, most forums have that capability, the ones I've moderated in the past did.

So, can I still post it here? ._. I found a new title, but know little of it..

Hayate the Combat Butler. Even the title makes me wanna laugh. @.@ Seriously, what kid has two parents who ring up such a big dept, cause him to lose his job, and try to sell him to some creepy oddballs and Santa haunts his thoughts?! and then has to kidnap.. XD OK, OK, hard to explain..

Posted by Roarkiller on 01.17.2008, 11:20 AM:

Yeah, not having a merge function sucks.

IMO you guys decide which thread to keep and abandon. Neither breaks rules, so no point in even locking them.

Anyway, this ain't Japan, so I vote manga stay with anime.

Hehe, it is a memorable name. xD So, what's it like? I've heard of it, and I've heard it's good, but without any real detail...

New series by the mangaka of Honey and Clover!!!

3 Gatsu no Lion (March Comes in Like a Lion). It's about a 17 year old shogi player who lives alone, has no parents. He's friends with these 3 sisters though, who have lots of cats and are also orphans.

So I stated reading this because it's Chika Umino's work but I'm totally falling in love with it...Plus, if it's anything like H&C

I've started reading Bleach, I'm about halfway through the second book. My other anime/manga obsessed friend let me borrow them. So I'm letting them borrow my Tsubasa DVD. Wah, I won't see it 'til Monday . Heheh. Ah there's always YouTube I guess. It'll keep me going 'til then.

Wait... why am I talking about Tsubasa?

So. Yeah, Bleach. I didn't think I was going to like it. But I do. I like Rukia. How weird, I prefer a female character to the main male character. Well... Ichigo isn't that cute. He's OK. But nothing compared to my Fai.

Totally agree Kaz.

I loved Bleach the anime and only started getting the manga around episode 100 ish. All the charatcers (with one exception) are far more likeable in their original format. Especially as you've pointed out: Ruki. Manga doesn't make me laugh audibly very often, but the scene in the first volume where Rukia first turns up at Ichigo's school and shows him her hand, on which reads..

"Make a Scene and you are soo Dead!!

...is just brilliant. Tatsuki and Orohime also look better in their manga format, they are less disproportioned.

*oh and the exception I mentioned is that lesbian girl that fancies orohime. She needs more page-time

Rukia is awesome. Easily my favourite character in all of Bleach. I gave up watching the anime. The first few arcs were great but then all the fillers...and yeah. I couldn't stomach it anymore.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I metioned (and by "mentioned" I of course mean "ranted" about this somewhere else on the forums. Almost all the Bleach charatcers in the current arcs are loosing their appeal, Ichigo remains good, kenpachio and yachiru remain absent and Rukia is just.....well.....my opinion of the latest rukia is not suitable for your ears

I started reading the Evangelion manga series because i bought the first two volumes on sale a while ago. i like it alot and am temtped to give the series another try after not making it past the first episode because of my dislike for mecha-anime.
Also started the first Death Note manga.

Have many people read the Kare Kano series? if so, what did you think??

Once the story picks up and you get the really important Big Twist(tm) around ep.13 or so, it is no longer a mecha-anime, its all about the characters and their intertwined - well, mess, to put it bluntly. Their lives. Its - uh, well just watch it okay. Then watch it again, and etc... I must have seen it a dozen times now and I still see new things in it.

(need to watch it again in fact...)

Read it and loved it. The part covered by the anime (first 7 volumes) is done much better in the anime, a few things are subtly changed and the situations are stronger, particularly Maho's and Yukino's fight. But the rest of the manga is excellent. It begins as a high school romance story (the part covered by the anime) but after that it becomes completely different focusing mostly on Arima and his messed up family although Tsubasa's and Kazuma's story gets a lot of page time, which is good because it's an interesting one. Maho gets her own volume too (vol.10???) and her backstory is good too. Quite sweet.

I first read this at the beginning of last year and I recall sitting up all night to about 4am rushing through the last 4 volumes, it was one of those stories, you know?

"I just could not put it down" is the phrase.

Very emotional ending, very dark in places, highly recommended.

Ye, ive alreayd got that vibe about Evangelion from the little ive been through in the manga, thats why i'm willing to seek out the series again. Besdies it's one of the ones you kind of have to watch i guess.

On Kare Kano: clearly your tatses are quite different to mine, ive only read a bit of the manga series and havent seen any of the naime but it is the first manga series ive gotten bored with. there is some humour, some nice bits and some sad bits but all in all i cant say i feel compelled to continue the series, especially with such a massive list of books to get through already.
