When you say "Japanese version", I assume you're referring to Made-In-Japan, in which case, you have to know that all ghibli movies released by the studio themselves already include English subtitles.
CDJapan and YesAsia already have them on their list.
And, uh, stay away from Malaysian bootlegs. They're cheap, and some MAY be good, but the majority of them are crap.
This is underground knowledge, but if you're buying bootlegs, make sure that the legit DVD is already on sale, which means the bootleg is probably a rip, and not some camcorder recording. You can also tell from the packaging; plastic sleeves are the most dubious, though not all. In Thailand, several bootleg shops will tell you that a DVD is "100%", which means it's a rip. Generally, the percentage will tell you how good it is (20%, for example, probably means camcorder), but all my friends tell me that, if you want to be safe, always go for 100%.
In the case of my own country (Singapore), I'll tell you straight; NEVER buy bootlegs. They're almost guaranteed to suck.
